Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade mix, 7 lb.
A 7-lb. grass seed and fertilizer mix formulated for suitable shady lawn areas.
Shady patches deserve their own seed choice. This 7-lb. Dense Shade mix is a useful option to compare after checking how much daylight reaches that part of the lawn.
- Good for
- A lawn area with shade conditions suited to the Dense Shade label.
- The tradeoff
- Shade-tolerant grass still needs enough light and a site where turf can grow.

Why it earns a look
- A lawn area with shade conditions suited to the Dense Shade label.
Where it asks for a compromise
- Shade-tolerant grass still needs enough light and a site where turf can grow.
Where it fits in the growing routine
Watch the patch through the day before ordering seed. Read the blend label for light requirements, region, planting season, and application rate. Thin turf under a dense tree canopy may need a different planting plan even when the bag says shade.
